We have never had a complaint.
ARRIVAL
到着 · Tōchaku
A member of staff will greet you at the gate. They have been waiting. For some time now, in fact.
THE BATH
湯 · Yu
Private onsen access from dawn to dusk. After dusk the water is still warm. We recommend against swimming alone. We have never been able to explain why.
THE MEAL
懐石 · Kaiseki
Served at 7pm. Fourteen courses. Dietary requirements noted. The kitchen does not accommodate them but appreciates being informed.
THE SLEEP
眠り · Nemuri
Futon prepared at 9pm. You will sleep deeply here. Everyone does. Some guests report they did not wish to. This passes.
CHECKOUT
出発 · Shuppatsu
At your discretion.
At Ryokan 4444, hospitality is total.
HEAD OF HOUSEKEEPING
Chiyo
Every room is kept ready. She makes the beds for guests who have not yet arrived.
HEAD OF THE LOBBY
Hiro
He is always at the front desk when you turn around. You will not need to ring the bell.
HEAD OF WAITSTAFF
Aiko
She waits every table herself. Your meal was set before you sat down.
There is a presence at Ryokan 4444 that predates the building.
It does not have a name we are permitted to share.
Guests sometimes feel it in the hallways after midnight.
In the warmth that lingers in empty rooms.
In the tea that is always ready.
The Blessed One is aware of your arrival.
The Blessed One is pleased.
If you feel something watching during the night —
do not acknowledge it.
Turn over. Close your eyes.
It will still be there in the morning.
This is considered good fortune.
