For fifteen years, Mrs. Ladadee was the warmest face on afternoon television — a gentle host who welcomed children onto her living‑room set to sing, to play, and to feel safe. She ended every show the same way: leaning toward the camera, folding her hands, reminding every child watching that there would always be a seat saved for them here. You'll be filled with glee!

Four children were seated beside Mrs. Ladadee for the final broadcast — three girls in matching bows, and one boy at the end of the row. These are their names.
Waved to her mother in the front row before the cameras rolled. Loved the closing song.
Sat in the center chair, closest to Mrs. Ladadee. Knew every word of the theme.
The youngest of the girls. Hummed the closing song to herself between takes.
The boy at the end of the row, nearest the door. When the feed was cut, Sam was the only child who walked out of the studio — the sole survivor of the final broadcast. What he carried out with him is the reason there is a film at all.
She was never introduced by any other name, and the station kept no file on her. Fifteen years of afternoons, the same soft voice, the same saved seat. When the ratings began to slip in the autumn of 1982, the network scheduled her cancellation for the new year. She had other plans for the final broadcast.
A partial broadcast log recovered from the station reels. The titles are Mrs. Ladadee's own, read aloud at the top of each show. The archive runs unbroken — every weekday, without a single missed airing — until the last entry.

The final show opened exactly like every other. The curtain parted. The four children took their seats. Mrs. Ladadee welcomed the children at home and promised that today would be a day nobody watching would ever forget.
What happened during the last half hour is not preserved here, and this archive will not describe it. The record notes only this: the broadcast was terminated at 4:47 PM, mid‑sentence, by an engineer who cut the feed from the booth. Of the four children billed that afternoon, only Sam walked out of the studio. Mrs. Ladadee was never found.
The master reel was seized, sealed, and marked. The network quietly retired the timeslot. For decades the tape sat in a vault and did not decay the way the others did.

In the weeks after the broadcast, Sam told his family he could still hear the closing song — that Mrs. Ladadee was calling him back to his seat. He died before the year was out, in 1982. His file, like the master reel, was sealed. He was the last child she ever spoke to, and the only one who came when she called.
The broadcast ended in 1982. The signal did not. Mrs. Ladadee is a fourth‑wall creature — and this is the story of the winter she spent calling Sam home.
